Mocs Volleyball Travels To Samford

  • Wednesday, September 21, 2016
The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team begins their Southern Conference title defense Friday night as they open up conference play against Samford.

UTC will take the court Friday at 8:00 p.m. (EDT) inside the Pete Hanna Center. It will be the Mocs only match of the week before returning home next week, Sept. 30, to host ETSU.

Chattanooga is coming off a 2-1 record last weekend in their annual Scenic City Showdown Tournament held in Macellelan Gym. The Mocs concluded the tournament with a thrilling comeback win over Ole Miss, marking their first win over an SEC member in program history.
Junior setter Madison Bergren (Muncie, Ind.) and sophomore libero Rachel Petkosh (Merritt Island, Fla.) earned All-Tournament honors for their outstanding play.

"We open up with one of the teams that's always at the top and will be competing for a Southern Conference championship on the road," said coach Travis Filar.

"We are excited and will be taking confidence from this past weekend with us."

The Mocs will be meeting the Bulldogs for the 38th time as Samford holds a 24-13 head-to-head record since their first meeting in 1989. The two teams split last season with each team winning on their home court.

Samford enters the contest with a 9-6 overall record having won four of the last six matches, all on the road. They completed last weekend with a 3-1 record in the University of Texas-Arlington Invitational.
