Monday, Sept. 26, our first presidential debate happened; no minds were changed. Yet something beautiful and important happened. The Atlanta Falcons, my team, played the New Orleans Saints.
Instead of some irrelevant, broad based, screw America protest, the opposing teams locked arms in unity. I was impressed. I have been a Falcon Fan since 1971 when WMOC AM broadcast the team. There is a rivalry here that borders hatred, yet all of these men put that aside for a moment.
I hope that one of these teams is in the Super Bowl. I respect Drew Brees and believe that he is one of the finest men in the league. He wrote a book, gave the money away and after Hurricane Katrina gather other players and friends to help rebuild for the less fortunate.
Then "Mattie Ice" said why: "If we want to change, we do it through unity."
A saying that holds true.
