Chattanooga firefighters presented a check for $80,507 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) at Station 1 on E. Main Street on Friday.

The money was raised during the department's annual Fill the Boot fundraisers for MDA last month and last April, which was coordinated by the Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association, Local 820.

"We're very glad we could raise this money for MDA," said Fire Chief Chris Adams, "but we couldn't do it without the generosity of local citizens, who obviously understand the important mission of the Muscular Dystrophy Association."

Lauren Clanton with MDA in Nashville said the funds raised by the firefighters will help MDA's efforts to fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs, such as state-of-the-art support groups and care centers, including the MDA Care Center at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
The funds also help send more than 80 local kids to the MDA summer camp at no cost to their families.
