The former United States Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, will speak in the Lee University Dixon Center morning chapel service Thursday, Oct. 6, at 10:40 a.m.

Judge Gonzales served as the 80th U.S. attorney general under appointment by President George W. Bush. Prior to that post he served on the Texas Supreme Court and as a White House Counsel.

The grandson of a Mexican immigrant, Judge Gonzales earned his juris doctor degree at Harvard Law School after receiving his bachelor’s degree from Rice University.

“We are pleased to host Judge Gonzales for this anticipated chapel,” said Dr. Jerome Hammond, vice president for University Relations. “He is a legitimate voice on some of the most important topics being debated today.”

In his recent memoir, “True Faith and Allegiance,” Judge Gonzales opens up about his 2007 resignation as Attorney General and about his controversial decisions regarding CIA surveillance following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Judge Gonzales currently serves as dean of Belmont’s College of Law in Nashville.

After the event Judge Gonzales will be available to sign his new book, “The President’s Counselor: The Rise to Power of Alberto Gonzales.”

Everyone is welcome to attend. Seating is first come, first served.

For more information about the event, contact Bethany McCoy in the Office of Community Relations at bmccoy@leeuniversity.edu.  For more information about Lee chapel services, visit http://www.leeuniversity.edu/chapel/ or call 614-8420.
