Tom Rowland Re-Elected To TACIR Leadership Post

  • Sunday, January 29, 2017

Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland has been re-elected to a seventh  two-year term as vice chairman of the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations(TACIR). Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris (R-Collierville) was re-elected to serve as chairman.

The elections came during the quarterly meeting held last week in Nashville.

TACIR meets at the state Capitol in the Legislative Plaza for two days four times a year.

The chairman of the commission is required to be a state legislator. Members are appointed on a rotation basis by the Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House. Rowland was first appointed to the commission by Governor Don Sundquist. Terms are four years.

"I feel honored to serve on this prestigious body and appreciate the confidence of my fellow commissioners. I always look forward to each meeting where a variety of issues concerning cities and counties in Tennessee are  discussed," Mayor Rowland said.

The executive director of TACIR is Dr. Cliff Lippard. The commission has a talented  research staff of approximately 18 members who provide input to assist the commissioners in decision making.

Two current issues include broadband and 911 funding, both of which Mayor Rowland said are important to Cleveland and Bradley County.
