In-Town Gallery Presents "Terra" For January

  • Tuesday, January 3, 2017

“Terra”, earth, land is the subject of Lee Glascock’s group of paintings featured on the front wall at In-Town Gallery for the month of January.  The imaginative use of color and texture using acrylic paint on canvas reveals a new look at a subject often given only a cursory glance.   See the paintings and meet the artist at the opening reception at the monthly First Friday reception, Friday from 5-8 p.m. at 26A Frazier Ave.

Review for "Terra":
Works begin with spontaneity and move through constant revisions resulting from applying layers of different colors.   From chaos to order the land formations reveal themselves.

“I’ve always loved experimenting with paint and exploring methods to create beautiful color, pattern and texture," said Ms. Glascock.  "I usually approach a painting without an outcome in mind. Through layering using different methods, some tried and true, as well as trying new things, the painting begins to take a direction and I develop it to completion.

“This series, 'Terra', was born from the inspiration I’ve gained from traveling through national and state parks, hiking along rivers and through canyons, climbing on rocks along the sandy shores of Nova Scotia, and digging for gemstones in the mountains of North Carolina, all the while relishing the raw beauty of our earth.”

A native Chattanoogan, Ms. Glascock says she was inspired by a watercolorist grandmother from an early age.  A graduate of University of Tennessee at Knoxville, she majored in general special education.   Through the years she has done watercolor, china painting and jewelry and is now immersed in acrylic mixed media  painting.  Various accomplished instructors have influenced her, including Agnes Standifer, Virginia Skipper and Sandra Paynter Washburn.  She is currently a member of Mixed Media Inspired Artists and Tennessee Watercolor Society.  In addition to In-Town Gallery, Ms. Glascock has also exhibited Michael’s Fine Art, Dalton, and the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun.  Chattanooga venues include: Reflections Gallery, Exum Gallery, North River Civic Center and Salon H.

In-Town Gallery, at 26A Frazier Ave. on the North shore, is open every day, year round, except for major holidays.  Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday and until 8 p.m. on First Fridays.  Call 2267-9214 or visit www.facebook.com/intowngallery.
