The pastor of Church of the Highlands (formerly Highland Park Baptist Church), is taking a new assignment.

The congregation of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, S.C., called Dr. Jeremy P. Roberts as its first lead pastor in more than a quarter of a century.

Dr. Roberts will start at the "Mother Church of Greenville" on Nov. 6.

Brushy Creek officials said, "Brushy Creek's members have sought a man of God to lead them since Dr. Ralph Carter retired earlier this year.

"Dr. Roberts couldn’t be more excited about serving as lead pastor at Brushy Creek, praising members' friendliness and focus on bringing God to Greenville, and the world. The high-energy pastor has spent the last five and one half years in Chattanooga, where he ushered Church of the Highlands from a dead downtown campus to a thriving suburban ministry. The church has tripled in size, to reach those in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee."

Dr. Roberts is a native Texan, growing up in Plano prior to attending Liberty University. He currently holds four degrees from Liberty and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and has  worked alongside former Southern Baptist Convention Presidents Dr. Ronnie Floyd and Dr. Jack Graham.

He frequently blogs, writes books and hosts podcasts.

Dr. Roberts said, "I am blessed and amazed by the opportunity to lead the wonderful people who make up Brushy Creek Baptist Church Taylors. It is quite humbling to know of the sacred trust that has been given to me by the Lord and our wonderful church community. From the moment we arrived at Brushy Creek, Charity and I realized we had not made a ministry stop, but had reached our ministry destination.

"This new opportunity gives us the chance to cement our lives in a place and with a people with whom we can celebrate each season of life for years to come. I am most excited about the opportunity to take the redeeming message of Christ to the people of this region. My priorities will always be to reach people with God's Word, to relate people to His church, and to release them to change Greenville County and the world.

"One of the most humbling realizations for me is knowing that I stand on the shoulders of Brushy Creek families, since George Washington's presidency, who have prayed and paved the way for these wonderful days we are experiencing. I feel a bit like how Joshua must have felt. He was the young leader God used to lead His people to their promise. However, Joshua accomplished all that he did on the heels of the faithful life of Moses.

"Dr. Carter led so faithfully for one quarter of a century, and I am honored to serve as his successor. As much as I believe that incomparable days of promise lie ahead, I also realize that much of the way has been paved for me by those who have tirelessly given and served over the last several centuries. So many of you have served relentlessly behind the scenes as you were praying, fasting, believing, and building this great church. On that strong foundation, it is exciting to now step into this role and lead Brushy Creek to the place God has before us. My family and I look forward to seeing you when we move to the Upstate in early November. We love you and are praying for you daily. All for Jesus, Dr. Jeremy Roberts."
