Virginia College To Host Open House And Ribbon Cutting For Medical Office Specialist Program Oct. 19

Virginia College in Chattanooga will host an open house showcasing its new Medical Office Specialist program for members of the community on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m.

Located at 721 Eastgate Loop, the event will offer campus tours, program information and meet-and-greets with faculty and staff.  Refreshments including barbecue, beer and wine will be provided for attendees, along with music by DJ Jamm. Guests will receive swag bags with goodies while they last, and can enter to win Visa gift card giveaways.

The new program is set to launch at the campus on Thursday, Nov. 9. 

“We are delighted to host an open house for the community to showcase our new Medical Office Specialist program,” says Campus President Dominick DeLorenzo. “With its specialized curriculum, this program equips students with the skills to succeed in the healthcare field. We know this program will be an asset to those in our community looking to start a career in healthcare.”

"Medical Office Specialist training is designed to prepare students for administrative support roles in healthcare settings. The program, equips students with administrative training and business-related skills, allowing students to develop the skills specific to the needs of local healthcare providers.

"During the 36-week program, students will receive an in-depth education in medical office administration, written and spoken communication, office administration, medical transcription and medical office operations. In addition to courses in management, communications and computer applications, students will receive training in medical terminology, office procedures, customer service, payroll accounting and more. Furthermore, the curriculum includes a practicum where students gain and benefit from real-world experience through an externship.

"Students completing the Medical Office Specialist program may seek positions in many different administrative support jobs in the medical field such as medical office assistant, hospital or physician’s office receptionist, medical transcriptionist, insurance collection specialist, medical billing clerk or medical office bookkeeper," officials said.
