Billie Aaron Prater, age 86, of Cohutta, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017.

He was the son of the late Ben Houston Prater, Sr. and Lillie Porter Prater.  He was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service, member of the Dalton Masonic Lodge #238, a lifelong member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church in Cohutta.  He was a retired board member of the Prater’s Mill Foundation in Varnell, Ga. 

Mr. Prater was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Thelma Naomi Reynolds Prater; brother, Ben H. Prater, Jr.; and sisters, Minnie Black, Lucy Carter, and Mattie Sivels. 

He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Teresa Burse of Dalton; son, Aaron L. (C. Yvonne) Prater of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Candace (Kevin) Dixon, Terence Skillern, Temeka Skillern, Jermaine Burse, Ariel Prater, Anton Prater, Amond (Krystal) Prater; great-grandchildren, Rashawn, Malik, Naquay, Peyton, Kamri, Aryn, Anaya; sister, Beulah V. (Joe) Burke; one goddaughter, Blessin Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. 

A homegoing celebration will be on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Rodney Weaver officiating.  His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Monday after 11 a.m. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2 p.m. with full military rites.
