Schubert, M.D. (Milam Douglas)

  • Monday, December 11, 2017
M.D. Schubert (Milam Douglas), 91, of Rossville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning. He was born on 14th of February 1926 in Appalachi, Va. At the time of his death, he was a resident of the Alexian Village Rehabilitation Center. He was a longtime resident of the Mountain View Community, and was known by his neighbors as a friendly, gentle neighbor, who made an early morning four-mile walk each day. He graduated from LaFayette High School in LaFayette. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and received several decorations for his service. An indication of his pride of his military service was noted by the U.S. Army flag flying outside his home on the day of his passing.

He was a loving husband married to Aileen Nash Schubert for 56 years. M.D. was a committed Christian and a member of the Chickamauga, East Ridge/Crossing Church of God for 63 years. He was employed by the T.A.G. and Norfolk Southern Railroad for 42 years. He had a warm and gentle spirit and was quick to give compliments and encouragements to family and friends. He was gifted with a sharp mind and able to come up with witty and humorous one-liners that would bring a smile and laughter to those in his presence.

M.D. was a loving and devoted father.  Rita was the “apple of his eye.” A walk through his house and noticing all the pictures of his daughter made that obvious. He was a compassionate and doting grandfather to his grandsons Bejan Bahadoran and Amir Bahadoran, great-grandson Ian Bahadoran and granddaughter Holley Ducker. He was a student of history, and an avid reader of books related to the Civil War and American presidents. He loved country music, trading knives and sharing a cup of hot coffee with his walking buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Aileen of 56 years, and his three sisters.

He is survived by his daughter Rita Schubert; son-in-law, Nasser Bahadoran (who was like a son to him) of Signal Mountain; grandsons, Bejan and Amir (Maddy) Bahadoran; granddaughter Holley (Andy) Ducker; and great-grandsons, Ian Bahadoran and Patrick and Seth Ducker.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13 at noon in the funeral home chapel, with Reverend Terry Harris officiating.

Interment at Chattanooga National Cemetery, with military honors.
