Chattanooga Is Mired Down - And Response

  • Tuesday, February 28, 2017

As an avid Chattanoogan reader, especially the opinion and also latest booking reports, from afar Chattanooga is mired down.

I can't exactly put my finger on it, really.  I have studied it and thought it over and don't even have a great description. The school board is a mess with special interests like CSLA wanting to be "special". I lived on Signal Mountain and went through the birthing pains of a "very special" high and middle school. You could "contribute" $35,000 and get your name on a classroom, for $650,000 you could get the ball field named after you.

I thought they were dark days, no one had their names on classrooms at my dear Maryville High School. Times have changed. Maybe all the schools should got into the business of naming parts of the facilities, just thinking.

The booking reports from Hamilton County have a unique feature, change the faces a little and everybody is all alike and hold their heads up in defiance. There was a time when going to jail was a shame, is it now a badge of achievement?

Oh Mr. Thurmer, you and I think alike.  When I look at those booking photos I wonder why they're actually smiling.  Is the deputy saying "say cheese"?  Or they appear to be trying to scare the camera into submission....one way or the other I'd be ashamed to have my picture in the newspaper for being a fool.
