Opal Shaw, 85, passed away on February 24, 2017 in a local hospital. 

She was born and raised in Tulsa, Ok.  She attended Lincoln University where she received her Bachelors in Music and Education.    

She later received her master’s degree from UTC and a degree in Supervision and Administration from Trevecca.

Opal relocated east to Tennessee/Georgia area, where she began her 37-year teaching career, and she also met her future husband, Warnie C.  “Bump” Shaw, Sr.

Survivors include her two sons, Warnie (Jacqueline) Shaw, Jr., and Tracy Millinax Shaw, Sr.; eight grandchildren; three and half great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, March 3, at First Baptist of East Eighth Street with Pastor William Terry Ladd III. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens – East.

The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday and the family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m.; Delta Sigma Theta will have the Omega Omega Service at 6 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave.,  622-9995.
