  • Wednesday, March 15, 2017

The Lee University saxophone choir concert, which was postponed on March 1, will now take place on Wednesday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

The performance will feature students taught by Lee faculty Dr. Brenda Moye and Alan Wyatt, along with students instructed by Clint Schmitt of UTC. Mr. Wyatt will conduct the majority of the program with Mr. Schmitt guest conducting. Also performing with the students will be Dr. Moye on sopranino saxophone and Mr. Schmitt on soprano saxophone.

The six-voice choir (six different saxophones) will showcase students and professors playing bass, baritone, tenor, alto, soprano, and sopranino saxophones. In addition, the choir will be accompanied by rhythm section instruments on the last selection of the program with Lee faculty member Shawn Perkinson.

Music by Astor Piazolla, Scott Joplin, Bennie Moten, and Camille Saint-Saëns, will be performed, among others.

Dr. Moye, an adjunct instructor of saxophone at Lee, holds a doctorate and master’s degree from the University of Arizona and two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Miami. In addition to teaching, she also composes arrangements for the saxophone.

Mr. Schmitt serves on the faculties of UTC and Southern Adventist University where he teaches applied saxophone, Jazz Survey and woodwind methods classes. He holds degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and Jacksonville State University. He performs regularly in the Chattanooga and surrounding areas and has presented numerous recitals at universities across the Southeast.

Mr. Wyatt, an assistant professor of music at Lee, received a master's and bachelor's from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Among his many duties, Mr. Wyatt serves as the area coordinator of music business for the Musicianship Studies Department of the School of Music, and directs the Lee University Jazz Ensemble.

This event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.  For more information about the concert, contact the School of Music at music@leeuniversity.edu or call 614-8240.
