Mildred Jane Long Splawn, born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1927, died on the April 3, 2017 in Columbus, Ga.
Jane graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1945.
Jane was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang all her life. While serving as a singer and pianist at Concord Baptist Church, she met G. Roland Splawn her first and only husband. One of Jane’s greatest musical accomplishments was singing at Carnegie Hall with the Atlanta Choral Guild.
Jane lived most of her adult life in Atlanta and worked for the Florida East Coast Railway for many years. Jane was an avid reader and a fabulous seamstress who, in her later years, enjoyed storytelling, quilting, and genealogy, as well as bird watching.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Long and Bertha Isbill Long Renner and her brother, James William “Bill” Long.
Jane is survived by her sister-in-law, Lee Long (Bill), son, Ray Splawn (Brenda), daughter, Susan Wirt (Ron), grandchildren, Andrew Splawn (Susan), Hannah Splawn (Orin King), Emily Wirt (Adam Forrester) and Zoe Wirt; great-grandchildren, include Alyssa, Caroline, Roland Splawn, and Trevor King.
A graveside service will be held on April 29, at 12:30 p.m. at Grove Level Cemetery in Dalton, Ga., led by Dr. Ron Wirt.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2100 Hilton Ave., Columbus, Ga. 31906.
