D-II Soccer: MBA Edges Baylor, 1-0

MBA used a first half Baylor own goal to post a 1-0 win Friday in a D-II Middle/East Region soccer match at Baylor.

MBA’s William Porter’s received an assist on the goal via throw in in the 18th minute.

“We started well and maintained the momentum for the first 20-25 minutes,” said MBA coach Gils Cheevers who team led in shots, 7-4, and corner kicks (3-1) in the first half. “But Baylor came on in the second half and we were able to defend well throughout.”

Baylor coach Curtis Blair saw the match as “A tale of two halves as in big region game I was very disappointed we didn’t start the game with more energy.

“But our guys responded well in the second half.”

Baylor led in shots, 5-1, in the second half. 

Baylor (9-2-2, 1-1-1) had two good scoring chances early in the second half, but the MBA defense was able to keep the Red Raider ball out of the net.

MBA had open goal chances in the 22nd and 65th minutes but one shot went over the cross bar and the other attempt was wide right.
