Chattanooga Increases Lead Over Smokies To 2 1/2 Games With Five Game Remaining

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  -- Ryan Walker hit a two-run triple in the top of the 11th inning to help lead the Chattanooga Lookouts to a 9-8 win over the Montgomery Biscuits on Tuesday. With the victory, the Lookouts swept the five-game series.

With the Smokies third straight loss and the Lookouts fifth straight win, Chattanooga leads Tennessee by 2 1/2 games. The teams meet for five games beginning Wednesday night at Smokies Park.

Later in the inning, Chattanooga added an insurance run when Walker scored on a double by Nick Gordon.

Montgomery attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs to cut the Chattanooga lead to 9-8. However, the rally ended when John Curtiss got Justin Williams to ground out with a runner on second to end the game.

The Lookouts scored one run in the ninth before Montgomery answered in the bottom of the inning when Riley Unroe hit an RBI triple, bringing home Michael Russell to tie the game 6-6.

Walker tripled twice and singled twice, scoring three runs while also driving in three in the win.

Nick Gordon went 3-for-7 hitting his 19th double and driving in two runs.

Edgar Corcino was 2-for-6; LaMonte Wade went 1-for-3, with a double, 3 walks and 2 RBI.

Although he gave up his first runs of the season, closer Curtiss (2-0) got the win in relief while Tyler Brashears (2-2) took the loss in the Southern League game.

Chattanooga moves on to Tennessee to face the Smokies in a five-game series that completes first-half play. Fernando Romero, one of the Twins' top pitching prospects, takes the hill for the Lookouts. 

The Lookouts need just two wins against the Smokies to clinch the Southern League North Division first-half title. 

Roster moves:

After his start in Tuesday's game at Montgomery, pitcher Dereck Rodriguez has been returned to Hi-A Fort Myers and LHP Randy LeBlanc has moved from Fort Myers back to Double-A Chattanooga.
