World War II Veteran Held 50-Year Career In Commercial Construction

James "Jimmy" V. Durham died on June 18, 2017.

He was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Alabama and lived in the Chattanooga area for the past 80 years. He was of the Nazarene faith.

Jimmy served in the United States Navy on the USS Mobile in the South Pacific during World War II. After his military service, he had a 50-year career in commercial construction and served on the Apprentice Committee for the Carpenters' Local #74.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Frances M. Durham; his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and John Brown, siblings; Barbara Houser, Virginia Lancaster, Marie Brooks, Samuel Durham, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 5455 North Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37411 or Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Dr., Chattanooga, TN 37416.

A private graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
