Chattanooga Chamber Of Commerce’s Hayslett Obtains SHRM Credential

  • Friday, August 11, 2017

Yolonda Hayslett, accounting manager at the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, successfully completed the Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional exam. Washington D.C.-based SHRM is the world’s largest society for human resources, representing 285,000 members in more than 165 countries, officials said.

“This is a difficult exam, and the credential indicates not only mastery of technical HR knowledge, but also the ability to apply that knowledge at work,” says Cheryl Millsaps, vice president of Finance and Administration at the Chamber. “Yolonda deserves kudos.”

"Ms. Hayslett demonstrated HR expertise in passing this rigorous exam, which assesses HR knowledge in four areas: people, organization, workplace and strategy. Additionally, the SHRM exam tests situational judgement and comprehension of eight behavioral competencies: leadership and navigation; business acumen; ethical practice; relationship management; consultation critical evaluation; global and cultural effectiveness; and communications," officials said.

Ms. Hayslett holds an MBA and has worked as an accountant with the Chamber since 2005. As the accounting manager, she assists Ms. Millsaps with financial, payroll, and human resource affairs of the organization. Prior to her work at the Chamber, Ms. Hayslett worked as an accountant at the Chattanooga Group, at Olan Mills, and Hawker PowerSource.  Ms. Hayslett is also a mom of two who loves to be involved in our community, currently serving as treasurer for the Orchard Knob Community PTA.

"Ms. Hayslett’s accomplishment adds to a growing list of Chamber accomplishments. Ms. Millsaps recently received the Certified Chamber Executive designation from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.  The Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce also earned the Chamber of the Year designation and other peer awards for excellence in membership, marketing and sales at the July 18 ACCE annual awards show, hosted this year in Nashville," officials said.
