David Stone To Speak At Green Thumb Garden Club Sept. 25

The Green Thumb Garden Club of the Collegedale/Ooltewah area is featuring David Stone on, “Hosting Birds in Your Flower Garden” on Monday, Sept. 25. The public is invited to hear Mr. Stone’s presentation beginning at 7 p.m. at Morning Pointe Assisted Living Center of Collegedale.

In 1971 Mr. Stone graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture specializing in Turf grass management.  Before retiring at the end of 2016, he was a golf course superintendent for 43 years. The last 34 years were at The Honors Course in Ooltewah where he lived on the golf course with his wife Stacy. In 1991 The Honors Course was the first course recognized by Audubon International for conservation and preservation of wildlife habitat. 

Mr. Stone was elected the Tennessee Golf Association Hall Of Fame in 2005 and was president of the Chattanooga chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society from 2008–2011 and is still an active board member.

First-time visitors are always welcome free of cost. Following the presentation there will be a Q&A period, John Odom’s Unique Nature Nugget, and drawings for door prizes. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Rita Vital at 505-6605.
