The Covenant women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesdaynight as host Sewanee scored the eventual game-winner early in the second half and would hang on for a 2-1 victory over the Lady Scots at Puett Field.

The loss snapped a three-match win streak for Covenant (3-1) to open the year.
It also was the first time all year that the Lady Scots had allowed an opponent to score as the streak reached just over 296 minutes to begin the year.

The win was the first of the year for Sewanee (1-3-1).

Covenant saw its shutout streak come to a close in the 21st minute of action. Sewanee's Kiley Ezzell took a shot from 16 yards out and had it deflect off a Covenant defender before bounding into the net past keeper Rachel Lemay. The goal was not only Ezzell's first of the year, but also the first time Sewanee had put one in for the season.

The Lady Scots answered back late in the first half. After a Sewanee foul near midfield, Kyra Duble played a quick ball to Lizzy Hightower, who took a few dribbles in before launching her shot from over 40 yards away and lofted it just over Sewanee keeper Samantha Bourgeois' hands and into the net with 27 seconds left in the period. The goal was Hightower's first of the season, while the assist was Duble's first.

Early in the second half, Sewanee capitalized on an opportunity to seize the lead for good. Walker Poe took a rebound from Mary Frank's attempt and got it past Lemay from a few yards out to give the host Tigers a 2-1 advantage.

Covenant would put together a couple of good looks later in the half, but were not able to find the equalizer. Duble found space just inside the box in the 83rd minute, but could not direct her attempt towards the net and the shot was the final one of the night for the Lady Scots.

Lemay made two saves at the net for Covenant, while Bourgeois made one for Sewanee. The Tigers held a 6-5 edge to shots taken on the night and 6-0 in corner kicks. Molly Kate McClearn had two shots to lead Covenant in the category.
