The Cleveland High School Environmental Awareness Association (EAA) received the 2017 Public Education Award of Excellence from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and Tennessee Keep America Beautiful. The award was presented at the Annual Tennessee Keep America Beautiful Conference in Nashville on Tuesday.

The group was nominated for the award by Joanne Maskew of Cleveland/Bradley Keep America Beautiful.  Teacher sponsors of EAA are Jeannie Cuervo, Holly Parker, and Andi Wendorf.  Attending the luncheon ceremony were Jeannie Cuervo and EAA student leaders Casey Choate and Preston Pham.

EAA runs an award winning school-wide recycling program at Cleveland High School.  They complete community outreach with local elementary schools encouraging younger students to protect the local natural environment.  EAA also organizes and runs two community-wide stream clean up events each year at Mouse Creek.

EAA sponsor and CHS teacher Jeannie Cuervo said, "Working with this group of committed, hard-working young people has been one of the highlights of my teaching career.  I am inspired by them daily."
