A female workhouse inmate has been charged with assaulting and threatening a fellow prisoner.

Alexis Nichole Smith, 19, of 2405 Stuart St., was charged with aggravated assault, harassment and civil right intimidation.

In the incident on Monday, a Red Bank Police officer said he was transporting a group of inmates to Silverdale when he heard a commotion in the back of the transport van.

He said he then saw Ms. Smith assaulting another inmate.

The officer said the two argued, then Ms. Smith struck her in the face and head multiple times with both her hands and the metal chains from her restraints.

The victim had a red mark going from her forehead to the bottom of her right cheek. Her right wrist was also injured, but it was not clear if that was from the assault.

While being handcuffed, Ms. Smith began to yell and curse at the other inmate, who was in a nearby cell.

Police said Ms. Smith stated, "Have fun you white b---- because I got you. I've got riders in here and on the streets. I just have to say the word, and they'll be hearing about it, white b----."

The woman who was attacked had been arrested on New Year's Eve on a warrant for failure to appear in court.
