James Edward Hughes, 77, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on January 19, 2018.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1940, to the late Sam and Linnie Hughes. Jim was a lifelong resident of this area. He was of the Church of God faith and a member of North Cleveland Church of God where he actively served for 40 years in the media department. Jim worked for many years in the computer industry as a data processor. Following that, Jim worked delivering garbage trucks all over the country. Jim was an avid Tennessee Vols and Atlanta Falcons fan and loved cheering on his teams. Above all things, Jim loved his family and spending time with them and his two fur babies, “Samantha Grace” and “Shug.” 

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, John and Gladys Pigg; nephew, Chuck Pigg; niece, Amy Pigg; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Pigg.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Sarah Pigg Hughes; daughter, Alicia Gail Hughes; brothers-in-law, Charles Pigg (Brenda), Steve Pigg (Brenda), and John Pigg. In addition to these, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. 

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, at North Cleveland Church of God Dixon Chapel. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at the church with Pastor Mark Williams, Rev Dan Bowles, and Pastor Cy Harris officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fort Hill Veterans Cemetery.
