The Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged rape at Hixson High School.
The Sheriff's Office said, "Earlier last week, the HCSO School Resource Officer at Hixson High School was made aware of an alleged rape that occurred at the school after the incident was brought to the attention of faculty.
"The faculty member immediately reported it to school administration and the HCSO School Resource Officer. The incident was investigated. Child Protective Services (CPS) and the HCSO Criminal Investigations Division (CID) detectives were notified. Chattanooga Police Department Detectives were not involved in the investigation.
"The SRO spoke with the custodial parent and the victim at the time of the report and the indication was neither wished to seek prosecution at that time. This information was then relayed to the Criminal Investigations Division. After further review, no further action was taken by law enforcement. Furthermore, the case was brought to the attention of the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office.
"Once again, this sensitive matter was reviewed, the proper agencies and personnel were notified, and the incident was investigated.
"Earlier today, an immediate family member of the victim reached out to detectives and shared information and concerns and therefore the case has now been reopened. The Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office has also been contacted and made aware of the new information.
"HCSO investigators will work with the District Attorney’s Office as the investigation moves forward.
"Because state law dictates what law enforcement agencies are allowed to release in cases involving juveniles, the HCSO is limited to what details can be released.
