Rep. Ron Travis on Tuesday congratulated both Bledsoe and Sequatchie County Schools for their considerable improvements related to high school graduation rates for the 2017-2018 school year.
The districts were among nine across Tennessee that demonstrated some of the most notable gains and overall achievements, improving graduation rates by five percentage points or more.
In fact, Bledsoe County’s graduation rate increased by 6.5 percent during the 2017-2018 school year and was 92 percent. Sequatchie County saw an increase of 7.6 percent from the previous academic year. Approximately 94 percent of high school students in the county earned their high school diploma in 2017-2018.
“I am very pleased to hear that more of our students are experiencing academic success at the high school level by earning their diplomas,” said Representative Travis. “This will better prepare them for college, technical or trade school, or as they look to join our workforce. I want to thank our local educators, staff members, engaged parents, and family members for the important roles they have played in this tremendous accomplishment, and I will continue to support our high school graduates because they are the future leaders of our community and our state.”
Statewide graduation rates remained at the highest level ever recorded in 2017-2018 — 89.1 percent. Additionally, more than 56 percent of school districts with high schools saw rates improved when compared with 2016-2017 numbers.
