Lee University's Performing Arts Series To Open With Baritone Poff

Guest artist Jay Poff, high lyric baritone, will open Lee University’s Performing Arts Series, presenting a showcase cabaret of Broadway, contemporary art song, and pop music hits on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall in Lee’s Humanities Center. 

Performance pieces for the evening will include works from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Brigadoon,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “The Last Five Years,” and “Moses.” 

A Lee alum and native of Huntsville, Alabama, Mr. Poff carries over 25 years of theatrical performance, including work in historic regional theaters and on Broadway. Some of his most noted theatrical performance credits include Jesus in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Jamie in “The Last Five Years,” Dr. Frank-N-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Show,” The Emcee in “Cabaret,” for which he was named Best Male Lead in a Musical, and Moses in “Moses.” Earlier in 2018, Poff cast, directed, and performed with The New York Contemporary Choir on its inaugural performance in “Rocktopia!” on Broadway. 

During his time at Lee, Mr. Poff was involved in and toured with Lee Singers and Second Edition, touring the continental United States, Hawaii, Italy, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and Tortolla. He was also active in The Lee University Opera Theatre where he performed the role of Papageno in Mozart's “The Magic Flute” and Lee University Chorale with whom he presented his original work, “For Your Ives Only,” a Tribute to Charles Ives.
