I was hardly surprised when I read this evening that Max Bahner had been honored at the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. I met Mr. Bahner too many years ago, I was about 14 (I'll be 65 next month) and I won't guess how old he is. He had a similar aged son, Tab, now deceased, who used to "hang around" with us and also two daughters. His precious wife was always so pleasant to us and respectful, unlike a lot of moms' reaction to teenage boys.
Mr. Bahner would always get home in the evenings and speak to us and bring his son in for dinner. He never failed to ask how we were doing, what we'd been doing, etc. I remember him to be one of the nicest men I had ever met and who was certainly more prosperous than our families but never made a difference with us.
I kept up contact some, not near enough, but more so when I was a Walden police officer. I have failed poorly in my older years to contact him, but please let me say, congratulations Mr. Bahner, you certainly deserve it, forgive me for losing touch with you, but I see you are still the fine, fine man you were back then.
Respectfully yours,
Arlos Dempsey
