-The Chattanooga Mocs return to the Roundhouse Tuesday night for a matchup with Cumberland. Game time is at 7 p.m., broadcasting on ESPN+.
It’s the first meeting between the two programs since February 1997’s regular season finale prior to the NCAA Sweet 16 postseason run. The matchup is just the eighth between the schools separated by 135 miles.
Kevin Easley leads five Mocs averaging in double figures with 17.5 points per game. His 22 Saturday night were the most points by a Chattanooga freshman since Gee McGhee’s 24 in a February 2013 win over Elon.
He’s joined by Donovann Toatley (13.0), Thomas Smallwood (13.0), Jerry Johnson, Jr., (12.0) and Maurice Commander (11.0). Easley and Smallwood pace the effort on the boards with 7.0 rebounds per contest apiece.
The Phoenix are a spotless 5-0 on the season and will remain unbeaten on their ledger as Tuesday night’s game is an exhibition for them. They boast a strong balance offensively and defensively so far shooting 52.1 percent from the floor including 46.7 percent from 3pt range, while allowing the opposition 41.7 percent (32.4% 3pt) and making 12.2 steals per game winning all five by double digits.
