Signal Mountain Girls, Tyner Boys Top Seeds In 6-AA

Howard Will Host Annual Tournament Starting Saturday With Semifinal Games

The schedule is set for the District 6-AA basketball tournament after coaches met on Tuesday to finalize those plans.

Tyner is seeded first among the boys while the Signal Mountain girls earned the top spot in their tournament.  The Brainerd boys were the regular-season district champs, but will not be part of the post-season after their brawl with Austin East.

Play-in games will be played at higher seeds this week with semifinal action then going to Howard on Saturday.  Consolation games are set for Monday with championships to be determined on Tuesday.

All-District teams were also determined and Coaches of the Year named.  Brainerd’s Stanley Jackson is the girls coach of the year while Tyner’s E’Jay Ward and Signal Mountain’s Steven Redman are the co-coaches of the year among the guys.

The top four teams will advance to the Region tournament, which will be held at Red Bank.

The girls All-District team includes Kendall Davis, Mary Witherspoon, Olivia Koontz (Signal Mountain); Bailey Lee, Mya Kennebrew, Shelby Romans (Red Bank); Kimia Carter, Asia Jarrett (Brainerd); Wanda Taylor, Keniah Watkins (Tyner); London Vaulx, Ja’nya West (Central); Kirby Brown, Kiera Taylor (Hixson); Monique Baker (East Ridge) and Kayvnna Eppinger (Howard). Brainerd’s Stanley Jackson – Coach of the Year.

The boys All-District team includes Jessie Walker, Joseph Norwood, Kevin Halfacre (Brainerd); Javon Craddock, Jeremy Elston, Solomon Bridgeman (Tyner); Owen Honroth, Jarren Radden (Signal Mountain); Brett Abshire, Julius Jackson (Central); Alonzo Russell, Tyrone Martin (East Ridge); Marquez Williams, Rico Weaver (Howard); Tory Sewell (Red Bank) and Terry Moorer (Hixson).  Tyner’s E’Jay Ward and Signal Mountain’s Steven Redman are co-Coaches of the Year.

Howard boys (5) at East Ridge (4), 7:00

Hixson-East Ridge girls winner at Brainerd (3), 7:30
