Several dozen competitors from multiple states took part in the Great Southern Old-Time Fiddlers' Convention Saturday at the 901 Lindsay event space downtown.
Despite stiff competition, several locals finished in the top three in the contests that covered dance, banjo, traditional song, string band and fiddle.
Leading the local winners was Chris Ryan of Rising Fawn, Ga., who won the banjo competition and finished third in fiddle.
Jana Michelson, a teacher at East Hamilton High School, finished second in traditional song, while Girl Time and the Do Right Daddies of Pikeville, Tenn., finished third in the string band category.
Other first-place winners included Austin Derryberry of Unionville, Tenn., in fiddle; The Griddle Lickers of Stone Mountain, Ga., in string band; Kevin Martin of Nashville in traditional song; and Jay Bland of Kennesaw, Ga., in dance.
