County Schools To Hold Teacher Hiring Event On Saturday

  • Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Hamilton County Schools will hold a local talent hiring event on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hixson Middle School to begin the hiring process for openings in the fall.

“We have great teachers in Hamilton County Schools including 52 Nationally Board Certified teachers working in classrooms that serve children who speak 125 languages,” said Dr.

Bryan Johnson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools. “This hiring event seeks to add even more talent to our teaching ranks to prepare our children for a bright future.”

The special hiring event currently has over 250 registered participants from 17 states.  Most registered are Tennessee, Georgia and Florida teachers with other hopefuls attracted from as far away as Wyoming and Colorado.  The hiring event provides a great opportunity for excellent teachers in Chattanooga, North Georgia and North Alabama to connect with school principals and talk about future openings.  Principals from each school in Hamilton County Schools will be at the event with information about teaching positions needed for the 2018-2019 school year.

“Chattanooga is a great family place to live and work which is a compliment to our excellent school system in attracting quality teachers,” said Keith Fogleman, chief talent officer for Hamilton County Schools.
“There is a high percentage of experienced applicants scheduled to attend in addition to new graduates, and it is exciting that our principals will be able to interact with so many candidates to identify great teachers for our schools.”  He added,”This hiring event is just one element of system efforts to not only hire but develop and retain great teachers in our school system.”

Registration for the event opens at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast and a networking opportunity available in the Hixson Middle library after a participant completes registration.  There will be short 15-minute presentations throughout the morning where teacher candidates hear from district leadership about the future of Hamilton County Schools, meet system teacher leaders, and learn more about district teacher induction and new teacher mentoring programsParticipants will also rotate between the sessions and meetings with small groups of principals divided by grade level.  A lunch provided by Two Sons Kitchen and networking opportunity will complete the event in the Hixson Middle library at noon.  Principals will conduct interviews throughout the morning, and some interviews may continue after lunch.

“Teachers serve our community, and we are thrilled to sponsor this event and share the great benefits of joining Hamilton County Department Schools,"  said David Siatkowski, president of Chattanooga Area Schools Area Federal Credit Union, one of the event sponsors.

“Since its founding in 1917, the Junior League of Chattanooga has recognized the importance of education in our community,” said Melissa White, vice president of membership development for JLC, another of the event's sponsors. “JLC remains committed to supporting Hamilton County schools, teachers, children, and adults by providing an active volunteer base and funding for these important initiatives, and we look forward to a strong relationship for many years to come.”

This event is made possible by community sponsors including the Chattanooga Area Schools Federal Credit Union, the Chattanooga Junior League, the Tennessee Education Association, and Beth Harrell of the Group Real Estate Brokerage.
