A woman was charged in an incident on Wednesday in which a pedestrian was struck in North Chattanooga.
Police said the Traffic Division responded to the scene of a pedestrian involved motor vehicle crash where the vehicle had left the scene at 100 N. Market St.
The pedestrian was attempting to cross the street on Frazier Avenue at North Market when she was struck by a vehicle making an improper left turn at the intersection, it was stated.
Police said Alice A. Hope was traveling southbound on North Market and turned left onto Frazier Avenue against a posted no left turn sign, striking the pedestrian.
According to witnesses, Ms. Hope did stop and check on the pedestrian, but returned to her vehicle and left the scene.
As she was leaving the scene, a police unit attempted to stop her and followed her to a near by parking garage where he was able to get her stopped.
When interviewed, Ms. Hope stated she never knew she had struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The pedestrian said she was in the crosswalk when she was struck.
Ms. Hope was issued a citation for making an improper turn and for failure to report an accident.
