Daniel Thomas of Hixson, was called to be the president of the Elders Quorum of the Hixson ward (congregation) in the Chattanooga Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

An Elders Quorum is a priesthood organization that at the local level acts under the direction of the stake president (leader) and also bishop (pastor) of the ward (congregation).  The priesthood is the power and authority of God to act in the service of others.  The purpose of the priesthood is to lift individuals and families.

Mr.

Thomas will serve locally with Jacob Shackleford and Joseph Heiss, with William Woods serving as their secretary. Mr. Thomas was born in Chattanooga and raised on Lookout Mountain.  His family has lived in St. Elmo since the 1700s. He was raised along with three other siblings by a single mom, and you can tell when speaking to him that this has made an impact on his life and translates into his care for others around him. Mr. Thomas grew up attending The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, went away for a time, but that didn’t last long.  He has been an active member of the Church for years.  He has been married to his wife Stephanie for 32 years and they have three children and two grandchildren.

Mr. Thomas says he looks forward to working with the Hixson ward to minister to those around them.  They will serve families and individuals in their wards, and also the people of Hixson.  All service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hinges on the two great commandments – to love God and our neighbor. Service, Mormons are taught, should be heartfelt, motivated by the pure love of Christ to watch over the temporal and spiritual needs of God’s children throughout the world, including in the Hixson area.
