The Joint Commission Awards Erlanger Health System 4 New Certifications; Erlanger East Hospital Recognized For Stroke Treatment

  • Tuesday, May 29, 2018

The Joint Commission has awarded Erlanger Health System four Disease Specific Care Certifications to Erlanger East Hospital and Erlanger Baroness Hospital.

Erlanger East Hospital received the Acute Stroke Ready Certification.  This certification recognizes hospitals that meet standards to support better outcomes for stroke care.

Erlanger Baroness Hospital received the Acute Myocardial Infarction Certification.  Hospitals must use a standardized method of delivering clinical care based on clinical practice guidelines and/or evidence-based practice; use performance measurement to improve its performance over time; and four months of performance measure data must be available at the time of the initial certification on-site review.

Erlanger Baroness Hospital and Erlanger East Hospital both received the Chest Pain Certification.  Certification requirements for a chest pain program address compliance with consensus-based national standards; effective and consistent use of appropriate, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for the AMI and ACS patient populations; and collection and analysis of a minimum of four performance measures specific to the chest pain patient population.

In addition to the Acute Stroke Ready Certification, Erlanger East Hospital also achieved Bronze status for Get With The Guidelines-Stroke presented by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.  The hospital received the award for its continued success in using the guidelines and ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

“I want to thank all the associates who assisted with making these certifications possible at Erlanger Baroness Hospital and Erlanger East Hospital,” said William Jackson, M.D., MBA, Erlanger Health System’s executive vice president and chief medical officer.  “The Joint Commission’s recognition of their hard work in delivering consistent care with better outcomes is a true testament to the world class care Erlanger provides to patients in our region.”
