Sharon B. Atwell, of Chickamauga, Georgia, was called home to be with her Redeemer on July 8, 2018. After a long, courageous battle with cancer and her husband by her side, she peacefully ascended into the arms of her Lord.

Sharon retired from the IRS as an internal revenue agent in the Large Business & International Division. The service greatly benefited from her knowledge and expertise during her career. While there, she earned the respect and admiration from many fellow employees. Always ready to advance her knowledge, she earned a bachelor’s of science degree from UTC and a master of Accounting degree from the University of Central Florida.

Whatever she did, she did her best - whether it be pursuing an education, succeeding in her career, mastering a hobby, cooking an amazing meal, or decorating a house to feel like a home. She was a virtuous, loving, and encouraging wife and a true friend. An amazing, Godly mother, she raised three very confident and capable children. She was a mama bear who always protected her babies while constantly lifting them up, telling them that they were smart, beautiful, strong—and convincing them of it. She seemed to have no fear and showed her children that they could do anything.

She was preceded in death by her son, Prescott Anders Atwell, mother, Gwendola Bailey and brother, Charles Bailey.

She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Atwell, father, C.R. Bailey, Children, Crystal Nation (Randy), Stephen Adams (Adonia), Levi Gray (Montana), Amanda Atwell-Smith (Adam), and Bethanna Johnson (Brett). She is also survived by nine siblings, Virginia Harris, Marilyn Goolesby, Charlene Patty (David), Denise Stewart (Marty), Beverly Cooper (Robert) Sherry Lowe (Phil), Steve Bailey (Crystal), John Bailey (Terry), Bruce Bailey (Elizabeth).

Her eight grandchildren, who brought her so much joy are Elijah Vaughn, Garrett Vaughn, Asher Vaughn, Meirra Atwell, Karma Smith, Haley Johnson, Evangeline Adams, and Raegan Adams.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 16, at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga Tennessee with Chaplain Pat Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday, July 15.

Arrangements are by The Chattanooga Funeral Home East.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the GoFundMe account link that has been set up to help pay for Sharon’s medical expenses:
