  • Monday, July 16, 2018

The Hamilton County Education Association-Fund for Children and Public Education, the association's member-led political action committee, announced its recommendations of several pro-public education candidates on the primary election ballot.

Giselle Palmer, chair of the HCEA-FCPE said, "The future of public education in Hamilton County depends greatly on our local elected officials supporting our public schools and prioritizing the best interests of all Hamilton County children. After interviewing candidates, we believe those we have recommended will be the strongest advocates for our students, educators and school community."

A team of civicly-minded educators from various school districts came together to interview candidates and review their written responses to a questionnaire distributed several weeks prior. After thorough discussion of the many strengths of the candidates, HCEA-FCPE is recommending the following school board candidates. Their recommendations are below:

"District 3: Miracle Hurley - Miracle's business background in youth services and behavioral health will provide a strong voice and much-needed perspective.

"District 5: Karitsa Mosley Jones - Karitsa has a proven track record of strong and passionate advocacy for students, teachers, and schools.

"District 6: Jenny Hill - Jenny brings an on-point outlook as a parent of children in public schools and a strong vision to elevate education for all students.

"District 8: Tucker McClendon - Tucker, an ambitious newcomer, brings a fresh perspective and innovative vision that will benefit students in Hamilton County.

"District 9: Dr. Steve Highlander - As a long-time educator, Steve has a valuable perspective and has proven his ability to fairly advocate for all stakeholders."
