Kevin Ward Heads Up Eagle Scout Project To Collect New Toys For Erlanger's Children's Hospital

  • Tuesday, August 14, 2018
Kevin Ward is a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 3 of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ooltewah.  He was featured in Erlanger’s newsletter for giving back to others.

Kevin, who is 15 years old, is on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout – the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scout program.  “I really want to be an Eagle Scout because it’s not just an award,” Kevin said.  “We learn in Scouts that ‘it is a state of being.’  My father and brothers are Eagle Scouts, and I want to be like them.”

The Eagle Scout rank exemplifies leadership, responsibility and applying the Scout Oath “to help other people.”  To achieve the rank, a Scout must perform a project for the benefit of the community.

“I chose to serve the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger,” Kevin said.
“I wanted the patients there to know that youth in Chattanooga like me care about them.”  With the help of his fellow Scouts, Kevin headed up and led a project to collect hundreds of new toys, stuffed animals, blankets and videos for patients at Erlanger’s Children’s Hospital.

“Helping out the patients at the Children’s Hospital is one of the best experiences I’ve had,” Kevin said.  “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that by small and simple things we can lift others.  Through service, we can help other people at all times and impact our communities for good.”

“I want to thank my fellow Scouts and everyone at Erlanger who supported my Eagle Service project.  I also want the patients at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger to know that I am thinking of them and I hope they get well soon.”

Kevin is the son of Jim and Celeste Ward.  His older brother, Ryan, is an Eagle Scout and so is his brother, Zachary.  His younger brother, Lance, is a Life Scout.  Kevin’s older sister is Madison Ward Teeples.  Kevin attends McCallie.
