A pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 58 on Wednesday night.
The victim was identified as Cecil Patterson, 42.
The driver was 70-year-old Steve Vaughn.
At 7:36 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Traffic Division responded to a fatal traffic crash involving a pedestrian struck that occurred at 5500 Highway 58.
Mr. Vaughn said he was traveling south on Highway 58 when he observed someone walking south in the emergency lane.
As he was passing the pedestrian, contact was made between the two.
Mr. Patterson was thrown off the roadway and came to rest in bushes on the west side of Highway 58.
Hamilton County EMS responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead.
The investigation is continuing.
