The man charged with murdering a pregnant teenager will bypass the Grand Jury entirely after his case was moved to the Criminal Court on a criminal information.
JeMichael Powell had his case moved from General Sessions Court directly to the higher court by agreeing to waive the Grand Jury process and expedite his case.
Powell allegedly shot and killed Quintasia Tate on Aug. 26 at Rainbow Creek Apartments. According to police, the 19-year-old Ms. Tate was shot several times. After being taken to the hospital, she passed away.
After the shooting, Powell was considered the prime suspect, and was promptly placed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s most wanted list. TBI took Tate into custody on Sept. 18, and he was charged with criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm.
