A pedestrian has been struck and killed on McCallie Avenue.
On Thursday at approximately 7:27 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Department's Traffic DUI Unit responded to a pedestrian struck at 2100 McCallie Ave.
Shantel Hooks was walking east on the westbound sidewalk at 2100 McCallie Ave. near the intersection. He then attempted to cross the street to the eastbound sidewalk, across lanes of travel and not inside the marked crosswalkat the nearby intersection.
A Kia SUV was traveling west on McCallie Avenue in the number 1 lane approaching the intersection.
The driver, Matthew Pruitt, 45, said he did not see Mr. Hooks, and was not able to stop before striking him.
Hamilton County EMS responded and transported Mr. Hooks, 45, to a local hospital. On Saturday at approximately 8:10 p.m., Chattanooga Police were notified that Mr. Hooks had succumbed to his injuries.
