A Bradley County deputy shot and killed a knife-wielding man early Saturday morning in southeast Bradley County. He was identified as Manuel Charles Carter.

BCSO deputies responded to 2854 McDaris Circle SE on an initial call from a female of an unwanted armed subject at her residence.

While en route to the scene the call was updated to a stabbing incident.  The caller stated the suspect, a white male, was armed with a knife and had stabbed himself in the chest.

When deputies arrived they attempted to subdue the man, who was still armed with a knife. They deployed a taser but were unable to stop him.

A single deputy then fired two shots to the chest of the suspect.  He was later pronounced dead at the scene by Bradley County EMS.

Per policy, in the case of an officer-involved shooting, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations is on site and will lead the investigation at the Sheriff Office's request through the District Attorney’s office. Their Violent Crimes Response Team came from Nashville to assist as well.
