County Commissioner Tim Boyd has posed questions to county school officials regarding a controversial teacher in-service training presentation last week dealing with "white privilege."
Commissioner Boyd sent a list of questions to Supt. Bryan Johnson and School Board Chairman Joe Wingate.
He asked:
Dr. Johnson and Chairman Wingate,
Due to the Supt being preoccupied with the opening our schools and unable to attend the Commission Meeting Wednesday morning I am following up to request answers to the following questions concerning the Teacher In-Service training presentation last week made by Mr.
Jackson at Bayside Baptist Church.
1. Many in the public are claiming the "White Privilege" portion of the presentation was taken out-of-context. When will the HCDE share the entire presentation with the public?
2. Who authorized Mr. Jackson making his presentation?
3. How much was paid to Mr. Jackson and by whom?
4. Who reviewed Mr. Jackson's presentation prior to the In-Service training session and determined it was appropriate?
5. What measures are in place to review materials being presented at future HCDE sponsored events and Teacher In-Service training sessions?
Mr. Brent Goldberg was in attendance Wednesday morning and offered no answers to these same questions when I asked them during the comment period of our Commission meeting. Considering the controversy created surrounding Mr. Jackson's slides referencing "White Privilege" it is very reasonable to ask and have these questions answered as soon as possible.
I along with the general public look forward to your response to this request.
