The City Council on Tuesday night voted no on electric scooters in the city on first reading.
Council members earlier expressed concerns, including safety factors and the issue of scooters being left lying all over the place.
The council earlier had put in place a moratorium on scooters. When that ran out, Councilman Ken Smith moved for the "indefinite" shelving of the idea.
Councilman Anthony Byrd said he initially favored the scooters, but changed his mind after seeing them in action. He cited unsafe driving of the scooters and finding them lying around instead of docked.
One speaker asked the council to consider a trial run for the scooters, but that idea did not get support.
