Margaret Coady
Margaret Helen Hodnett Coady, 88, of East Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 3, 2020.
She was born on January 10, 1932 in Pisgah, Al., to the late D.S. Hodnett and Katie Wininger Hodnett. She was a graduate of Central High School and was a Charter member of South Seminole Baptist Church, serving in several capacities and later joining Ridgedale Baptist Church. Helen was an active member in numerous clubs and organizations. Her life was dedicated to serving God, her family, and others.
While principally a homemaker, she had been employed by American Lava Corp. Later she served as an employee of Dayle May Jewelers and H & R Block. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Helen spent a lifetime doing for others and cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She took great pride in cooking for those family and friends, much to everyone’s delight. Her skills in the kitchen were widely admired.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, E. Dale Coady, who went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2020; son-in-law, Dr. William F. Mathis; granddaughter, Katie Mathis and two sisters, Hester and Tobitha Hodnett.
Survivors include her daughters, Pamela C. Mathis, North Carolina and Cheryl C. (Charles Ray) Vaughn, Ooltewah, TN; grandchildren, Amanda (Sloan) Holliday, North Carolina; Amber (Chris) Adams, Virginia; Emily (Philip) Carothers, North Carolina; and Carter (Whitney) Vaughn of Ooltewah, TN; five great-grandchildren; brother, LeRoy (Shirley) Hodnett, Ooltewah, TN; sisters, Wendy (Clark) Griffith, Chattanooga, TN and Doris (Bobby) Walton, Nashville, TN; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family.
The family will hold a private service.
The family would like to thank Larry and the staff at The Lantern at Collegedale and to Isaac and those from Hearth Hospice for their kindness and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
