Chattanooga State Assistant Basketball Coach Volonte Bell Dies In I-24 Wreck That Closes Freeway For 3 Hours At Moore Road

Volonte Bell, 29-year-old assistant basketball coach at Chattanooga State, was killed in a crash on I-24 eastbound near the Moore Road overpass on Sunday night.
 
The incident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. and caused the eastbound lanes to be closed for about three hours.
 
Police said Bell was driving a Honda Civic in the middle lane when he struck a Volvo truck pulling a trailer that was also in the middle lane.
 
Volonte Bell, who is the older brother of New Orleans Saints safety Vonn Bell, was pronounced dead on the scene by Hamilton County EMS.
