Larry F. Roberts, passed away on May 2, 2020 at his home.
He was born June 14, 1938, in Roberts, Il. and grew up in Shawano, Wi. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Economics. After completing the Russian Language program at the U.S. Army Language School in Monterey, Ca., he served in the U.S. Air Force in Germany.
He began his 35-year career in Personnel Administration in the Saturn V/Apollo Program of the Boeing Company in New Orleans, Louisiana and at the Boeing Atlantic Test Center in Cocoa Beach, Florida. In 1974, he moved with his family to the Chattanooga area, where he accepted a position at Cutter Laboratories. He retired from the Hamilton County Department of Education as Assistant Superintendent of Personnel in 1997. He was self-employed with auto-related activities for the following 10 years.
After his retirement, he pursued his life-long activities of woodworking, home and yard maintenance, attending vintage car shows, and history, especially World War II.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edith and Leonard Roberts; his brothers, Ray and Charles Roberts, and his daughter, Kimberly Ann Roberts.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife of 49 years, Carolann; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Jason Housley; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joann Gerlach; his granddaughter, Amelia Ann; his great granddaughter, Maliyah; his sister-in-law, Linda Working; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pattye and Tom Appleton; his sister-in-law, Dorrie Roberts; and his niece and her family, Kathy Roberts.
Larry was a sensitive, kind, and loving human being. His knowledge in many fields was vast; among them were history, nature, science, animals, cars, inventions, and space.
The family will hold a private remembrance to celebrate his life.
