William O. White
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William Otis White IV, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, who left this world too soon on May 5, 2025.
Born on January 12, 1968, in Atlanta, William was the cherished son of Sylvia Hadden White Hutsell and the late Dr. William O White III.
William spent part of his early childhood in Crailsheim, Germany, but called Chattanooga, Tn. home for most of his life. A proud graduate of Baylor High School’s class of 1986, he was a star athlete, playing football, track, and soccer. He attended Furman University; although his academic allegiance may have pointed one way, his heart forever beat for the Georgia Bulldogs.
William passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with ALS. He fought the disease with remarkable strength, grace, and dignity—never complaining, never wavering. He was a true hero in the face of a cruel and unrelenting illness. Though he will be missed beyond measure, his loved ones take comfort in knowing he is now pain free and at peace.
William was the embodiment of devotion—to his family, his friends, and his many passions. He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Lynne Hunneke White, with whom he shared a life full of laughter, partnership, and deep love. Together, they raised three remarkable children: Josephine Anna White, and twins William Sterling White and James Luke White. There was nothing William treasured more than being a father. He never missed a game, meet, or milestone—always there, cheering with pride and love.
He is also survived by his mother, Sylvia Hutsell and his stepfather, Michael Hutsell.
Known for his warmth, humor, and unwavering loyalty, William brought people together—often around a smoker or grill. A repeat BBQ champion, he had a true gift for the art of good food and great company. He loved being out on the water, whether boating or waterskiing, and was never happier than on the golf course, especially when attending The Masters, a tradition he relished.
William O. lived a life rich in love, friendship, and purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and cherished memories that will live on in all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, but remembered always with love, laughter, and admiration.
A Celebration of William’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 16, at Hixson United Methodist Church in the main sanctuary with visitation to follow in the Fellowship Hall, 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343, with Dr. Chuck Starks officiating.
