Charles "Pappy" Dunn
Charles “Pappy” Dunn, 88, of Rossville, Georgia passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chattanooga, but spent his entire life in Rossville.
Pappy graduated from Rossville High School Class of 1957, was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a longtime Rossville policeman and a Rossville volunteer firemen. Pappy served as chief of police, Badge number 200, serving his community with honor and pride until his retirement in 2002.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles and liked antique cars. He also enjoyed woodworking, collecting police patches and was a knife maker. He loved spending time with his Tuesday Costco Hotdog Lunch Bunch. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. There are no words to describe Pappy’s love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bridgett Dunn; granddaughter, Tiffany Hicks; grandson, Shane Hicks; and grandson-in-love, Sam Cromer.
Survivors include his soulmate and wife of 66 years, Wilma Jones Dunn. He was the father of Sheila (David) Hicks, Jan (Don) Gentry and Charles “Mike” (Brenda) Dunn. He was the grandfather to Jennifer (Jason) Barry, Matt (Brittany) Hicks, Bradley (Keelee) Freeman and Lindsey (Josh) Franklin; and eight great-grandchildren; longtime special friends and family in love, Brad and Beth Cromer and their daughter, Emma (Alex) Carnal.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Andrew Olinger and the nursing staff at CHI Memorial and Hearth Hospice for their compassionate care.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 5 at Lane Funeral Home and Crematory South Crest Chapel from 4-8 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, May 6 at Tennessee – Georgia Memorial Park, 724 Hogan Road in Rossville, with Pastor Frank Kelly officiating.
