Barbara Ross Rogers, 87, went to her eternal home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Barbara was the youngest of nine children born to John and Ethel Ross of Marion County, Tn. A graduate of Marion County High School, she passed up the opportunity to go to college to care for her aging parents. She worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for several business and medical practices before beginning a career with Blue Cross Blue Shield in Chattanooga. For many years, Barbara was an active member of Hixson First Baptist Church. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering through her church and Parkridge Hospital, as well as traveling with Scenic City Friends.

Barbara was a true daughter of Appalachia. Growing up on a Sequatchie Valley farm during the deprivations of the war years, she learned the value of hard work, self-reliance and loyalty to family. To those she deemed friends, there was not a more devoted ally. Her calm, reserved demeanor disguised a dry wit, a compassionate heart, and a selfless spirit. She was devoted to her Lord and her family, and she was proud of each of her grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, and by her siblings: Mable Ross Ellis, Nina Ross Schnauffer, Frances Ross Wallace, John H. Ross, Mary Lee Ross Thomas, Gladys Ross Daffron, Judson S. Ross, and Flora Faye Ross King.

Barbara is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Charlie Rogers; her son Alan (Melody) Rogers; her grandchildren Emily, Katie Beth, Brad, and Rebekah; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, in Hixson.

The funeral service will be led by Dr. Steven Granger in the funeral chapel at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Il. 60601, or at www.alz.org.
