De'Colvin Jamaal Poole was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him—gentle, wise, and full of quiet strength.

Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 3, 1992, to Tamica Watkins Chism and Demetrius Poole, De'Colvin touched the hearts of everyone he met in a way that will never be forgotten. On June 16, 2025, at just 32 years old, God, in His infinite love, called him home to rest in His eternal care. Although our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that De'Colvin is now resting safely in God’s loving arms.

From a young age, De'Colvin showed a remarkable intellect and a deep love for learning. He had a particular passion for engineering and an eye for how things worked. He was educated across several states, an experience that helped shape his adaptability and broaden his perspective. De'Colvin graduated from Tyner Academy High School in Chattanooga. As a dual enrollment student, he took college courses while still in high school—and his hard work paid off. He graduated in the top 5% of his class and earned over one million dollars in academic scholarships. He chose to attend Tennessee Technological University on a full ride, where he pursued a degree in engineering with determination and pride. During his time at Tyner Academy, De'Colvin stood out not only for his academic excellence, maintaining a GPA above 3.7, but also for his strong character and vibrant personality. He was an active member of the Kappa League, where he quickly became known for his compassion, charisma, and leadership. His natural ability to listen and offer wisdom beyond his years made him a trusted friend and mentor to many of his peers. In the classroom, on the court, and in the community, De'Colvin demonstrated maturity, discipline, and a genuine desire to see others succeed.

As a student-athlete, De'Colvin was a proud member of Tyner’s basketball teams, where he brought not only skill and intensity, but also unity and spirit. Coaches, teammates, and faculty often remarked on how his presence could uplift a room and inspire others to bring their best selves forward. Whether leading a fast break or encouraging a struggling classmate, De'Colvin carried himself with quiet strength and undeniable poise. His respect for others, coupled with his unwavering dedication, earned him the love and admiration of both students and staff.

Over time, De'Colvin developed a unique “swagg”—a blend of confidence, charm, and self-assurance that radiated through everything he did. It was this undeniable aura that led his Kappa League brothers to affectionately nickname him “Kasinova.”  He embraced the name with humor and pride, wearing it as a symbol of his growth, charm, and smooth demeanor—especially when it came to winning over hearts. Yet behind the cool exterior was a young man grounded in humility, purpose, and love for his community. De'Colvin left an indelible mark at Tyner Academy, and his legacy as a leader, scholar, and friend will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Those who knew De'Colvin remember his calm spirit, thoughtful nature, and the way he made people feel comfortable just by being around. He didn’t need to say much—his presence spoke volumes. Whether offering a kind word, a helping hand, or just a warm smile, De'Colvin had a way of making everyone around him feel seen and cared for.

De'Colvin was welcomed into eternity by many loved ones who went before him, especially his doting grandmother, Bernella E. Watkins; stepmother, Kristy Poole; and great aunt, Brenda E. Carter and his two great grandfathers, Robert Watkins, Sr., and Robert Poole; uncles, Glen Poole, Jeffery Poole, and Michael Poole; great uncle, Kenneth Watkins; great-grandmother, Valeria J. Howell; grandfather, Samuel Poole; close cousin and friend, Jullian Thomas.

He was deeply loved by his parents, Tamica Watkins Chism (Mike) and Demetrius Poole; his brothers, Kristopher Davis (Tula, OK), Michael Chism Jr. (Chattanooga, TN), and Samuel Poole (Tampa, FL); and his sisters, Meagan Chism and Mikia Chism (Chattanooga, TN). He was also cherished by his grandfather, Duane L. Sanders, Sr.; grandmothers, Janice Poole (O’Fallon, IL), Margaret McKinney (Tulsa, OK), and Denyce Carlock (Chattanooga, TN); great-grandmother, Alice Poole; uncle, Erick Watkins and his daughter, Makiyah Watkins; aunts, Sharon Jones, Adrienne Sammons, Krystal Poole, and Sharonda (Sam) Spence; aunt -in- love, Monica Carter; three great-aunts, Michelle Poole, Louise Poole, and Stella (Rev. Willie) Springs; two great-uncles, Robert Watkins, Jr., and Daniel Watkins; a host of aunts and uncles.

De'Colvin had a special bond with his cousin and “brother in love”, Ryan C. Brown Jr., and so many more family members and friends whose lives he touched. He was also surrounded by the love and support of his godparents, LaThres Jefferson (Milton), Dana Dozier (Robert), Melvin Hines II (Landy), and David Brooks, each of whom played a special role in his journey.

Though his time with us was far too short, De'Colvin lived with quiet purpose and deep love. He leaves behind a legacy of brilliance, humility, and grace. His life may have ended here, but his spirit lives on, in our memories, in the lessons he taught us, and in love, he gave so freely.

Public viewing will be held from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at Mt. Canann Baptist Church, 4801 Hwy 58, 37416, followed by a funeral service at noon.
